Restore smoother, brighter, firmer skin with in-office microneedling at Ophthalmic Associates. This minimally invasive treatment stimulates your skin’s own collagen and elastin, helping soften fine lines, improve texture, and reduce the appearance of acne scars — all with little downtime.
Microneedling uses a precise, medical-grade device to create controlled microchannels in the surface of the skin. These tiny channels trigger a natural healing response, encouraging cell turnover and new collagen production. Over time, skin appears tighter, more even, and more radiant.
What Can Microneedling Improve?
- Fine lines and early wrinkles
- Dull or uneven skin tone
- Enlarged pores
- Acne scarring and other textural scars
- Mild skin laxity (crepey skin)
- Sun damage and discoloration
- Overall skin smoothness and glow
How Does Microneedling Work?
During microneedling, a handheld device with sterile, ultra-fine needles is passed across the skin in a controlled, uniform pattern. These tiny micro-injuries signal the skin to repair itself by laying down new collagen and elastin — the proteins responsible for firmness, structure, and youthful “bounce.”
Because the channels are so small and precise, the surrounding skin remains intact, which speeds healing and minimizes downtime. In some cases, treatment can be paired with topical serums (such as hyaluronic acid or growth-factor–rich solutions) to enhance penetration and boost results.
What Happens During My Microneedling Session?
Your skin is first cleansed to remove any makeup, sunscreen, or oils. A topical numbing cream is then applied to maximize comfort for around 30 minutes. Once you’re numb, Dr. Boal will perform the microneedling in customizable passes based on your skin concerns and target areas (face, under-eyes, neck, etc.).
You may feel light pressure or a scratchy sensation during treatment. Most sessions take about 20–30 minutes once you’re numb. Microneedling is commonly performed as a series of treatments for best collagen remodeling. Many patients do 3–4 sessions, spaced 4-6 weeks apart.
What Can I Expect After Treatment?
Immediately after microneedling, it is normal to have redness, warmth, and a “sunburned” feeling. Mild swelling or pinpoint spotting can occur the first day. Most patients look pink for 48-72 hours and can resume normal activities the next day.
You will be asked to avoid makeup, heavy sweating, and unprotected sun exposure for the first 24 hours, and to use only gentle cleanser and moisturizer. Over the next days to weeks, skin feels smoother and looks more even. Collagen production continues to improve the skin’s tone, firmness, and texture over the following 4–6 weeks.
Who Is a Good Candidate for Microneedling?
Microneedling is an excellent option for patients seeking noticeable skin rejuvenation in the office without surgery or aggressive lasers. It is safe for most skin types and tones, including patients who may not be ideal candidates for deeper resurfacing lasers. It can also be used preventatively to maintain skin quality over time.
