Eyelid and Orbital Reconstruction

Reconstructive oculofacial plastic surgery focuses on restoring the delicate structures around the eyes and face—so you can see comfortably, blink normally, and feel like yourself again. These areas are not only central to expression and appearance, but also critical for eye protection, tear drainage, and vision.

As a board-certified ophthalmologist and oculofacial plastic surgeon, Dr. Nina Boal brings specialized training in both eye health and facial reconstruction. She cares for patients with eyelid cancers and growths, tearing problems, orbital disease, trauma, facial spasms, and paralysis. Her goal is always the same: to protect your vision, restore natural form and function, and support you with clear communication and compassion at every step.

Whether your concern is recent, long-standing, or the result of a prior surgery or injury, Dr. Boal offers individualized treatment plans grounded in advanced surgical techniques and thoughtful follow-up care.

Conditions & Treatments Offered

Skin Cancer & Eyelid Growths

The thin skin of the eyelids and surrounding areas is especially vulnerable to sun damage and abnormal growths. Some lesions are benign; others may be pre-cancerous or cancerous and can threaten vision if not treated.

Dr. Boal provides:

  • Expert evaluation and biopsies for suspicious lesions
  • Precise removal of benign and malignant growths
  • Mohs Reconstructive Surgery after dermatologic cancer removal

Reconstruction is planned to fully remove disease while preserving eyelid position, eye protection, and facial symmetry.

Tearing and Tear Duct Abnormalities

Constant tearing, recurrent “pink eye,” or infections can be signs of a blocked or dysfunctional tear duct system. These problems can interfere with daily comfort and vision but are often treatable.

Dr. Boal evaluates the entire tear drainage pathway and offers both non-surgical options and tear duct surgery, including external and endoscopic dacryocystorhinostomy (DCR). Treatment is tailored to the cause of the blockage, your anatomy, and your goals—whether that’s symptom relief, clearer vision, or eliminating recurrent infections.

Orbital Conditions

The orbit (eye socket) contains muscles, nerves, blood vessels, fat, and sometimes tumors or inflammatory processes that can affect both vision and appearance. These conditions often require advanced imaging and highly specialized care.

Dr. Boal treats a wide range of orbital issues, including:

Facial Spasms and Paralysis

Facial spasms, eyelid twitching, benign essential blepharospasm, and hemifacial spasm can be socially and physically exhausting. Facial paralysis can affect eye closure, comfort, and expression.

Dr. Boal uses targeted botulinum toxin injections and other reconstructive techniques to:

  • Reduce disruptive spasms
  • Improve eyelid closure and comfort
  • Protect the eye surface
  • Enhance symmetry and quality of life
